Biography
The Court of Equity were formed in 2006 by Picts Douglas Hunter, Grant MacConnell
and Jeremy Stirling. The aim was to focus mainly on the works of Robert Burns, in
both music and song.
The sound is a little more laid back than The Picts and the
atmosphere intimate.
Amongst their many engagements The Court of Equity twice played
at the International Robert Burns Conference in the Mitchell Library in Glasgow and
recently played at Wellwood House, Irvine at an event held in honour of G Ross Roy,
who is widely regarded as the world's foremost authority on Robert Burns.
Ross Roy
was very keen to get the band over to play at the Robert Burns conference in North
Carolina, However, circumstances were against this on that occasion.
The homecoming
year seen the band play at the Highland Hospice Burns supper, which also featured
Donnie Monro (Ex Runrig front-man) and other celebrities. Their first Cd is being
recorded in the very near future and a number of concerts are being planned throughout
Scotland.
The Court of Equity played in Haddington (At St Mary's Church) on the 25th of July
2009 at the exhibition launch of the first ever scale model of Burns Mausoleum built
by master craftsman Colin Hunter McQueen (Douglas Hunter's father). The exhibition
is toured the countries museums and galleries as part of the Homecoming celebrations
and the Haddington exhibition was opened by the Duke and Duchess of Hamilton. It
was combined with the book launch of "Hunters' Illustrated History of the Family,
Friends and Contemporaries of Robert Burns." which was conceived, designed and illustrated
by Colin Hunter McQueen and written, compiled and researched by Douglas M Hunter.
